First commercial expedition to Everest to be called carbon footprint neutral
Furtenbach Adventures Agency reported that their expedition to Mount Everest (8848m) this year was the first ever Himalayan expedition that did not negatively impact the environment.
Where possible, the organizers of the commercial expedition used clean technologies – electricity at the base camp came exclusively from energy produced by solar panels.

The remaining carbon emissions associated with flights, lodging and on-site transportation have been offset, through the financial support of Nepalese farmers, who will build a biogas plant with the money received.

This may not be the pinnacle of dreams, large commercial expeditions and the whole business around this branch of tourism in Himalayan countries continue to cause the environment (and more) a lot of problems, but it is undoubtedly a positive glimpse and a sign that environmental awareness is growing.
